The L.A. based cult singer & songwriter P.F.Sloan wrote this in 1964, at the time parts of the American population started to be concious, and Barry McGuire - a former member of "The New Christy Minstrels" - grumbled it to the top of the charts in 1965 for the whole wide world to listen ... but not too many did. Rats; almost 50 years later, you could rearrange a few lines, change a few occations, swap events and the conclusion of the song is still cruelsome valid. In fact, in 1999 Sloan rewrote it, McGuire rerecorded it ... and the world reneglected it.
