SPEED OF THE SOUND OF LONELINESS - chords and comments

This song is from John Prine's "German Afternoons" released in 1986, but got more famous as a duet with Nanci Griffith on her album "Other Voices, Other Rooms" from 1993; also released as a single. There is nothing exceptional with this song, except for being pure John Prine - and having one of the most outstanding song title I can recall.
D G
you come home late and you come home early
A D
you come on big when you're feeling small
D G
you come home straight and you come home curly
A D
sometimes you don't come home at all
D D7 G ...Em7
so what in the world's come over you
A A7 D
and what in heaven's name have you done
D D7 G ...Em7
you've broken the speed of the sound of loneliness
A A7 D
you're out there running just to be on the run
