Adios Amigo

Jim Reeves The song was first recorded by Jim Reeves [James Travis Reeves, 20.8.1923-31.7.1964] 2nd of November 1961, and released on RCA Victor April 1962. It HAS been covered, many times, but without markable success - of course because the original was too overwhelming. Jim Reeves was an artist no reasonable, musical person could dislike : starting more or less as a hillbilly artist, he became a crooner at the intersection of country and pop. Even one of my hardcore black metal-friends loves his comfortable voice and choice of songs ... he even lets my few versions pass without snarling. "Adios Amigo" is a classic, melancolic ballad written by veterans in the business, and belongs to any busker's collection.

adios amigo • adios my friend
the road we have travelled has come to an end
when two love the same love one love has to lose
and it's you who she longs for • it's you she will choose
adios compadre • what must be must be
remember to name one muchacho for me
I ride to the Rio where my life I will spend
adios amigo • adios my friend

adios compadre • let us shed no tears
may all your mañanas bring joy through the years
away from these mem'ries my life I must spend
adios amigo • adios my friend
