Bright Eyes

mike batt

This song, released and made famous by Art Garfunkle Otober 1978, is early Mike Batt. The English composer, conductor, producer and commercial songwriter - also releasing several solo albums - has been guiding Steeleye Span, Justin Hayworth and Katie Meloua among MANY others, and is - at the time of writing - Deputy Chairman of the British Phonographic Industry.
«The song is about death and the mystery of what happens afterwards» Batt says himself. It was written already in 1976 for the film "Watership Down", and is; of course; also a part of the soundtrack.

is it a kind of dream floating out on the tide
following the river of death downstream
oh is it a dream ?
there's a fog along the horizon • a strange glow in the sky
and nobody seems to know where you go • and what does it mean ?
oh oh is it a dream ?

is it a kind of shadow reaching into the night ?
wandering over the hills unseen
or is it a dream ?
there's a high wind in the trees • a cold sound in the air
and nobody ever knows when you go • or where do you start ?
oh oh into the dark

bright eyes • burning like fire
bright eyes • how can you close and fail ?
how can the light that burned so softly suddenly burn so pale ?
bright eyes
