From 1988 Album "I'm Your Man", Sharon Terea Robinson (1958 -) contributed writing this. She also named her self-released 2008 album after it. Sharon had a lot of influence on Cohen for the last part of his career, but note that their partnership stopped outside of the bedroom ... though their relationship resulted in Cohen being Godfather to her son.
Bitter truth, this. And one of Cohen's songs it's not hard to understand. Still not a song for spirited parties ... maybe for a booze-up, or rather the hangover day.
