kris kristofferson
All the most recorded Kristofferson songs came with his first 1970 album "Kristofferson", re-released 2 years later with the Janis Joplin-hit "Me and Bobby McGee" as the title. The first release was attracted only slight attention, but I came across it in a small record shop in Oslo ... as a cut-off. For a long time then, I had been wondering who's behind that "Kristoffersen"-signature following the title of various good songs by favorite artists. You see; this was 25 years before the internet :-D. But here was the answer: a black cover with a shady picture of a man smoking. I bought it unlistened to.
I was a bit disappointed. The man was singing like a goat ... besides, the production was poor. But the material was strong. Within half a year, I'd acquired the entire album with the exception of this one ... don't ask me why. But some years ago I realized I'd missed something essential, so here it is. It was first released by Bill Nash in '68, and became a hit for Ray Price May 1970 ... a month before Kris himself cut it for his debut album. More than 300 covers have followed, so far.
don't look so sad • I know it's over
but life goes on and this old world will keep on turning
let's just be glad we had some time to spend together
there's no need to watch the bridges that we're burning
I'll get along • you'll find another
and I'll be here if you should find you ever need me
don't say a word about tomorrow or forever
there'll be time enough for sadness when you leave me
lay your head upon my pillow
hold your warm and tender body close to mine
hear the whisper of the raindrops blowing soft against the window
and make believe you love me one more time
for the good times
