Four Strong Winds

ian tyson

This is the signature song of Canadian folk singer Ian Dawson Tyson (1933 – 2022), who has encouraged and promoted quite many artists more famous than himself. This was the first song he wrote - in 1962 - and recorded together with his wife (at that time) Sylvia, née Flicker, in the duo "Ian & Sylvia". First release was on their 2nd album "Four Strong Winds", 1963. There are incredible many covers and translated versions.

Again and over again I wonder: how come THAT many good artists and songwriters are canadians? There must be strong, spiritual winds blowing way up there.

four strong winds that blow lonely
seven seas that run high
all those things that won't change come what may
if the good times all are gone
then I'm bound for moving on
I'll look for you if I'm ever back this way

think I'll go out to Alberta
weather's good there in the fall
got some friends that I could go to working for
still I wish you'd change your mind
if I asked you one more time
but we've been through that a hundred times or more

:/:four strong winds...:/:

if I get there before the snow flies
and things are looking good
you culd join me if I send you down the fare
but by then it would be winter
not too much for you to do
and those winds sure can blow cold way out there
