bob dylan
In 1974, Bob Dylan rounded up a long tour with The Band, divorced Sara and sat down writing songs that after several touch-ups became the album "Blood on the Tracks", returning to Columbia after 2 albums with Asylum. It was meant to be released for Xmas '74, but was delayed because he cut half the playlist over again, and produced it himself - in Minneapolis, while the first takes were made in New York, produced by Phil Ramone. Dispite this, the result had a consistence no other Dylan album ever had. It got a mixed reception, from "Masterpiece" to "What the f...", but as the years have gone by, the first characterization has won. Myself, I put this album on top off ALL I've heard from him.
Dylan himself denies that the lyrics are autobiographic, but I don't trust that guy. He's always been vague.
The album is entirely recorded open D♮, but this song I found better (for myself) played normal G♮. I've never heard any covers, and they are not many, but this is in fact one of the first Dylan songs I played myself, and still do.
if you see her, say hello • she might be in Tangier
she left here last early spring and is living there I hear
say for me that I'm allright though things get kinda slow
she might think that I've forgotten her : don't tell her it isn't so
we had a falling out as lovers often will
and to think of how she left that night it still brings me a chill
and though our separation pierced me to the heart
she still lives inside of me : we've never been apart
if you get close to her kiss her once for me
I always have respected her for doing what she did and getting free
whatever makes her happy I won't stand in the way
though the bitter taste still lingers on from the night I tried to make her stay
I see a lot of people as I make the rounds
and I hear her name here and there as I go from town to town
but I've never gotten used to it • I've just learned to turn it off
either I'm too sensitive or else I'm getting soft
sundown, yellow moon • I replay the past
I know every scene by heart : they all went by so fast
if she's passing back this way I'm not that hard to find
tell her she can look me up if she's got the time
