bob dylan
From Dylan's fourth album "Another Side of Bob Dylan", released on Columbia in 1964. Best cover version in my opinion: Johnny Cash duet with June Carter from "Orange Blossom Special",1965, also released as a successfull single.
Evil rumours tell, that this song was written to Paul Clayton, as a response to an invitation to be closer than friends. Clayton was gay. Even more evil rumours tell, that "It's All Over Now Baby Blue" confirmed the closing of their relationship. Dylan himself has never mentioned anything about this; then we all should forget about it all. Both songs are standalone, written by a man carrying off his words to extent, and surprisingly winning the "The Nobel Prize in Literature" for it.
go away from my window • leave at your own chosen speed
I'm not the one you want babe • I'm not the one you need
you say you're looking for someone who's never weak but always strong
to protect you and defend you weather you are right or wrong
someone to open each and every door
but it ain't me babe • no no no • it ain't me babe
it ain't me you're looking for babe
go lightly from the ledge babe • go lightly on the ground
I'm not the one you want babe • I'll only let you down
you say you're looking for someone who will promise never to part
someone to close his eyes for you • someone to close his heart
someone who will die for you and more
but it ain't me babe • no no no • it ain't me babe
it ain't me you're looking for babe
go melt back into the night babe • everything inside is made of stone
there is nothing in here moving and anyway I'm not alone
you say you're looking for someone who'll pick you up each time you fall
to gather flowers constantly and to come each time you call
a lover for your life and nothing more
but it ain't me babe • no no no • it ain't me babe
it ain't me you're looking for babe
