This Old House
stuart hamblen
this old house once knew its children
this old house once knew its wife
this old house was home and comfort as they fought the storms of life
this old house once rang with laughter
this old house heard many shouts
now it trembles in the darkness when the lightning walks about
this old house is getting shaky
this old house is getting old
this old house lets in the rain and this old house lets in the cold
oh his knees are getting chilly
but he feels no fear or pain
'cause he sees an angel peepin' through a broken window pane
this old house is afraid of thunder
this old house is afraid of storms
this old house just groans and trembles when the night wind flings its arms
this old house is getting feeble
this old house is needing paint
just like me its tuckered out but i'm getting ready to meet the saints
this old house dog lies a-sleeping
doesm't know I'm gonna leave
else he'd wake up by the fireplace sitting down to howl and grieve
but my hunting days are over
ain't gonna hunt the coon no more
gabriel done brought in my chariot when the wind blew down the door
ain't gonna need this house no longer
ain't gonna need this house no more
ain't got time to fix the shingles
ain't got time to fix the floor
ain't got time to oil the hinges
nor to mend the window pain
ain't gonna need this house no longer
he's getting ready to meet the saints
