This Old House - guitar chords and comments

Lyrics without distraction HERE

Recorded by both Rosemary Clooney and Alma Cogan in 1954, this song became a hit for both. Translated into swedish by Olle Adolphson as "Trettifyran" it stayed on the Top Chart "Svensktoppen" for 39 weeks 1964-65, recorded by Per Myrberg.   I'm addicted to old houses. I've been moving around quite a lot, but I've always preferred houses build of wood, a little bit ramshackled, marked by the people been living there. I inherited my father's house in 1993, and had to sell it because I couldn't afford the absolutely required restoration. Fortunately, the new owner didn't tear it down to build a new and cold one, but brought it back into good old shape.
E E7 A
this old house once knew its children this old house once knew its wife
          B B7 E
this old house was home and comfort as they fought the storms of life
E E7 A
this old house once rang with laughter this old house heard many shouts
          B B7 E
now it trembles in the darkness when the lightning walks about

             A E
ain't gonna need this house no longer ain't gonna need this house no more
           B7 E E7
ain't got time to fix the shingles ain't got time to fix the floor
            A E C#m
ain't got time to oil the hinges nor to mend the window pain
             B B7 E
