stein ove berg • khawaga
In June 2002, the norwegian singer/songwriter Stein Ove Berg decided to end his 53 year long life. He left behind 8 albums, the last one released 2 months before his death. His recordings contain a collection of own material, as well as a few translations into norwegian. I decided to do the opposite.
In 1973 he wrote a very simple song: "Visa di". At that time, I had a love affair ... like almost every teenager. The song, in all of its simplicity, has followed me for 40 years; the object of my interest at that time is, as far as I know, married and leading a decent life.
... and the dandelion ended up in the trash bin the following day.
I stroll along some country lane
the dead of night strikes two
reflecting in each window pane
the horizon's turning blue
way down the ditch a dandelion
gasps its way to the sky
while birds wake up on their wire thrones
with tomcats passing by
I stop beneath a windowsill
the new born sun make shine
behind the curtains she's asleep
who never will be mine
I loved her true, I loved her wild
she didn't mention me
regarding me a virgin child
and weed out on her spree
now she's asleep without regret
in dreams so bold and free
and promised by the prince she met
and dated recently
I bid farewell, the clock strikes three
it's time to stop to roam
but the dandelion down the ditch
I brought back safely home

This song had INSANE chords until recently, for stupid reasons. Guitar, keyboard and me must have been in three different rooms; sorry.
