khawaga

  campfire

This was a short metasong that dropped down on me many years ago; fiddling with chords 3/4 rythm a tune without words appeared, and I rounded it up with a "refrain" without rhymes. Then it grew slowly. First I added a lyric to kick some highbrow's asses. Last year I added "The Water is Wide" to my collection, and writing the comments for this, I was inspired to add a first verse to "Songs". So this one *really* came sailing on the breeze. And words came little by little in a period of fifteen years.

I think it's at the end of the line now.

back in the primitive and ancient times
the earth was all seeded with countless rhymes
the air saturated with whispering
jingling and challenging chimes
all around the campfire wondering
listening and thinking and pondering
they harvested earth and they breathed the air
finding there a treasure to share

songs come by themselves
dropped with the rain
or brought by a bright golden summer sun
words just come as likely
sailing on the breeze

a concert hall takes many years to raise
prideful and dignified in all it's grace
showing the architect's great ideas
just to please and highbrows to praise
conductors are all educated well
chained by conventions for not to quell
orchestras founded by maestroes
in decent clothes : that's how it goes

but songs come by themselves
dropped with the rain
or brought by a bright golden summer sun
words just come as likely
sailing on the breeze
